What is LINQ – and what the heck is it doing to my database?Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Over the last couple of years, an increasing number of developers have got their hands on a new toy: Microsoft’s Language Integrated Query framework.  LINQ breaks with traditional database programming technologies by integrating querying directly into the programming language.  This can have big benefits in terms of productivity and safety, but it can also be a nasty surprise for the DBA when a 20-table join with 80 parameters springs out of nowhere and starts partying on his most heavily loaded server.  In this session, we’ll look at what LINQ is and what it’s doing internally, and we’ll ask:
 
Why do my developers want to use this LINQ stuff instead of writing SQL like God intended?
What happens when their LINQ code hits my database?
