What's New in Silverlight 4
Silverlight - What's New 4.0 This presentation will be centred around the latest version of Silverlight - I'll demo/discuss/show as much as we have time for, there's no shortage of cool stuff to cover.
Some info on Andrew Tokeley: I've been involved with building and designing solutions using Microsoft technologies since the mid 90's. I've been Statistician, Developer, Solution Architect, Development Manager and Product Manager but throughout have maintained a love of technology and what it can do to simplify business and everyday life. I've been boring anyone who will listen about how cool Silverlight is and where it can change the way we deliver applications over the web. I've presented and blogged about Silverlight over the last couple of years - paying particular attention to accessibility. In January 2010 I became a Silverlight MVP. blog: http://andrewtokeley.net

Intro to SharePoint, Intranets & Document Management
Most of you would have at least heard of MS SharePoint, but not everyone has a clear idea about what it is and what it can do. Debbie Ireland will be giving a presentation introducing SharePoint and how to use it for building intranets as well as for document management. The latter may be of interest to those in the public sector, with Public Records Act compliance looming.

Introduction to .NET Charts
Late last year Microsoft licenced the Dundas charts to be used royalty free within any .NET development. The flexibility of these charts is immense, perhaps too much so, resulting in a very complex API. The discussion will help to clarify some of the API as well as extend some features so that common, basic charts can easily be created without having to deal with the more complex binding.

Functional Programming in .NET
Functional programming has long been stuck in academia with (comparatively) few applications in commercial software. However that is changing with imperative languages like C# now including functional-programming features, an increased reliance on concurrency for performance and a desire for more readable, provable and testable code.

Usable User Interface Design
Usable User Interface Design. Let's face it: Most developers just aren't that good at designing user interfaces. Too often a user interface is something that is hastily applied near the end of a project because the developer has spent all the available time creating a masterpiece behind the scenes. However without an intuitive and compelling UI, the users will never fully appreciate the technical achievements of the underlying application or website. Come along for some tips on developing interfaces that keep user frustration to a minimum.

2008 Wrap-up, Lightening Talks
2008 is almost over and for many of us it's been a very busy year. Come along and share something cool you've been doing that you think might interest the group. (What I'm aiming for is something similar to the Lightening Sessions we ran a few months ago, but even more casual). No powerpoint required, just get up and talk for 5 minutes or so. I'll get things started by going over the experiences I've had with Silverlight2 since the October meeting. I'll bring a laptop in case anyone wants to show stuff.
